Jelly Belly Flops
Do you ever have those moments when you’re looking at something totally random – like a bag of Jelly Belly Flops, for example – and you just think, wow… how totally ingenious. Someone somewhere at some point took a look at all the irregularly-shaped jelly beans that were being thrown away and said, “Hey, let’s just re-market them under a funny new name!” Brilliant.
Okay, well, maybe you’re not too particularly impressed with Jelly Belly Flops. But I think we can all agree that the ideas of others can be pretty inspiring at times. And we all have those days when we could really use some encouragement that our own ideas will also, one day, be thought of as ingenious.
On his website foundation.bz, Kevin Rose interviews various business owners and entrepreneurs – including some of the minds behind giants such as PayPal and Twitter. He posts a new video each month and does an excellent job of exploring how these businesses came to be, from their humble beginnings to the peak of their success. Not only is it interesting to see how some of today’s most influential companies began, but it can also be a great encouragement to small business owners that even the best ideas start small before escalating to success. Never shy away from your dreams just because they aren’t immediately prosperous!
As the brilliant Franz Kafka once said, “Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.”
