Walnut Range Farms is run by Forrest and Jessica Swanson, 5th and 6th generation ranchers and farmers. They are passionate about raising mouthwatering pork and beef that’s also all-natural, grass-fed, high quality, and nutritious. After extensive research, they discovered the best breeds for optimum flavors and tenderness and then committed to no growth hormones, antibiotics or steroids, and allowing them free range in their natural habitat. In the end, Forrest and Jessica uncovered the secret to all-natural meat that’s well-marbled, juicy, and tender, and that of which would make any Nebraskan proud.
Walnut Range Farms had a relatively tight deadline, and we worked with them to create a new website complete with e-commerce, logo and branding package, and marketing materials to give out at their first trade show. We wanted to reflect their dedication to excellence and love for their land and livestock. Because Jessica is also a talented photographer, we made her imagery the focus and kept the flow and navigation straightforward in order to give their beef and pork products the attention they deserve.
Jessica was referred by a long-time friend. While the Swansons were already established ranchers, they were ready to branch out to a high-end market of meat and wanted to take their business online. Jessica was an excellent communicator and very easy to work with. She responded quickly and provided imagery, text, and content as quickly as she could produce it. And her energy, positivity, and encouragement were contagious.
Since Jessica and Forrest already had some idea of what they wanted and needed and had conducted their research before they met with us, they were able to give us good direction and then trusted us with the reins of their branding. They were wanting something that was upscale, while still keeping their down-to-earth roots approach to farming.
After receiving all the gorgeous photography from Jessica, we worked with her to create a mockup of the homepage. We put the photography forward first and then used the muted, earthy tones as a standard for the rest of the site. We made it clean, easy to navigate, and a celebration of their high-end beef and pork.
Jessica and Forrest also requested a variety of print materials, so we incorporated their logo and branding standards into stationery, business cards, thank you cards, a brochure, a flyer, a trade show sign, and packaging elements.
While Jessica and Forrest had a few specific requests such as MailChimp integration and newsletter signup, e-commerce was the big development feat for this site. It was important that their online store was easy to navigate while remaining visually beautiful in order to feature their high-end beef and pork. We worked closely with Jessica to craft it exactly how she envisioned it and we were incredibly thankful for her hard work and responsiveness in getting us all the imagery, content, and text we needed.
The other element that was necessary to perfect the website was the integration with UPS. Because of Walnut Range’s high customer service standards, we made sure that each order had accurate shipment costs and also provided email notifications and UPS tracking once the order was shipped.
Jessica has been excellent in communicating her questions, and we have put together some screenshots and quick videos to walk her through content uploading as well as some of the details of an e-commerce site.
