Suite Child has everything a family could need to care for and love on their little ones. Whether your child is still in the cradle or heading off to kindergarten, Suite Child has every stage covered, and every family member, too—not just baby! Their website has an extensive catalogue of items, all of which can be ordered online and shipped to their store in downtown Kearney, Nebraska. They also offer special services like gift registries and curbside delivery.
Control Yours has long partnered with Suite Child to keep their website current and crisp. We used soft blues and large, sharp images to keep the site simple, and we arranged their many products to make them easy to navigate. We placed categories for items in the main menu, and we included an extra menu bar at the bottom of the screen for additional pages. We also added a search feature in the upper left corner to help customers locate the exact item they need. We’ve really enjoyed working with the ladies at Suite Child. We’re huge fans of their store, and we wish them all the best!
We met Jamie Frerichs, the owner of Suite Child, through our good friend and prior client, Amanda Fries. Jamie had just taken over Suite Child and was making lots of changes, so she wanted her website to match the new direction her company was taking. Of course, we all wanted everything to be done right, so we spent a good chunk of time in the talking and planning stages before the project officially began.
The creative stage generally involves our designers creating a mockup for our client using the information we’ve been given about the kind of site they’re wanting (as well as any other preferences or thoughts they have). Suite Child was one of the exceptions. We never officially created a mockup for the site; instead, we pieced the design together based on a blueprint Jamie herself had created to show us how she wanted everything to look. We made a lot of adjustments and revisions during the creative stage, but when all was said and done, we were really happy with how everything turned out.
Jamie wanted her ecommerce inventory to sync with her brick and mortar inventory. She wanted it designed so that whenever an item was purchased online or in the store the system would automatically update. Although we've had plenty of experience with ecommerce sites, Suite Child was the first website Control Yours had tackled that involved something as intricate as what Jamie was wanting. After much bug squishing and chasing down wild code, however, we managed to get everything up and running smoothly, and the rest of the development phase was a relative breeze.
Because their site was on the more complicated side, we spent some extra time sitting down with Jamie and Amanda in our office to make sure they knew how to update and edit everything. We also created a series of screenshots with instructions to assist the rest of her team with using the website and, finally, we visited their actual store a few times to help with computer troubleshooting and other technical issues. (Web design is our main thing, but we’re pretty savvy with most things in the computer realm.)
